The multi-billionaire, whose parents were Jewish immigrants and who founded Meriton, Australia’s largest private apartment developer, said the government’s response so far has been inadequate and warned that a failure to confront antisemitism could deter foreign investment and damage Australia’s reputation as an open, inclusive society.

Triguboff described the massacre as “terrible” and “unbelievable,” urging decisive action from political leaders to reassure both the Jewish community and the wider public after the violence.

Triguboff emphasised that Australia was once viewed as one of the least antisemitic countries in the world and that allowing hatred to grow unchecked would undermine that legacy and harm all Australians, not only members of the Jewish community.

He proposed practical initiatives to strengthen community bonds, including funding interfaith sporting camps that bring together Muslim, Christian and Jewish children to foster understanding and mutual respect.

The developer’s remarks reflect broader national debates about how best to address spikes in antisemitic incidents and hate-related behaviour following the October terror attack by Hamas on Israel and subsequent violent episodes, which some security officials have identified as a significant threat to public safety.

Some opposition figures have urged Parliament to adopt urgent new laws to combat antisemitism and terrorism, and business leaders have united behind recommendations for stronger action, including independent inquiries into the underlying causes of the Bondi attack.
