Police investigate the cause of a blaze at a Tesla dealership, while incidents of vandalism against Tesla vehicles are reported in Sweden.
A fire occurred at a
Tesla dealership located on the eastern outskirts of Rome early on Monday, resulting in the destruction of 17 electric vehicles.
The blaze began at approximately 4:30 AM local time and caused partial damage to the dealership; however, no injuries have been reported.
Italy’s special police unit, Digos, is currently investigating the incident to determine whether it was deliberately set by activists.
Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of
Tesla, referred to the event as an act of terrorism in a post on X, for which he has been known to express his political views, including support for far-right politicians in Europe.
His remarks come amid a climate in which
Tesla cars have reportedly faced increased instances of vandalism in various countries, correlating with his controversial stances.
In a display of solidarity, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, leader of the right-wing League party, took to X, indicating that there has been "too much unjustified hatred against the
Tesla car company" and calling for an end to the "season of hate and conflict."
In a related series of events, two
Tesla stores in Sweden, located in the capital, Stockholm, and the coastal city of Malmö, were also targeted for vandalism.
Reports indicate that orange paint was sprayed on a
Tesla store in Malmö, leading to police detaining four individuals.
The Malmö police stated that they were alerted following reports of vandalism targeting both a store and parked cars in the vicinity.
These incidents collectively highlight a growing trend of hostility towards
Tesla and its owner, particularly in response to Musk’s political affiliations and public statements.
