NBA Game Erupts in Violence as Multiple Players and Coaches Ejected

A tumultuous encounter between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons leads to ejections during a physical showdown.
In a highly physical matchup, the NBA game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons took a violent turn, resulting in the ejection of five players and two coaches during the second quarter.

The incident occurred early Monday morning, AEDT, as the Timberwolves secured a victory over the Pistons with a final score of 123-104.

The ejected individuals included Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff along with players Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland II, and Marcus Sasser.

From the Timberwolves, forward Naz Reid, guard Donte DiVincenzo, and assistant coach Pablo Prigioni were also removed from the game.

The altercation began with 8:36 remaining in the first half while the Pistons held a 39-30 lead.

Stewart had received a technical foul shortly before the fight for a hard bump on DiVincenzo following a whistle, which escalated tensions on the court.

The situation intensified when Holland slapped the ball out of Reid's hands, leading to a heated exchange of words between the players.

DiVincenzo intervened, grabbing Holland's jersey, prompting an all-out scrum involving all players on the court as well as several coaches and trainers.

The confrontation required the intervention of team personnel to separate the players, during which Bickerstaff and Prigioni were observed yelling at each other.

This chaotic scene unfolded just six meters away from Timberwolves' new owner Alex Rodriguez, who was seen moving from his courtside seat to ensure the safety of a young fan who had become inadvertently caught in the fracas.

The game set a record for technical fouls with a total of 12, marking the highest number recorded in an NBA game since March 23, 2005, according to statistical analysis firm OptaSTATS.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch commented on the excessively physical nature of the game, indicating that the situation escalated to a point where players began to take matters into their own hands, which he deemed unfortunate.

After overcoming an early 16-point deficit, the Timberwolves managed to secure their victory against the Pistons, highlighting a dramatic swing in the game's momentum.

Separately, in another game, Dyson Daniels of the Atlanta Hawks achieved a notable milestone by becoming the franchise's single-season steals leader during a 145-124 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

In this game, Daniels recorded five steals, bringing his season total to 213, surpassing the previous record held by Mookie Blaylock.

The Australian player also contributed significantly to the Hawks’ performance with 22 points and nine rebounds, while teammate Zaccharie Risacher scored a personal season-high of 36 points.

Daniels now stands poised to potentially surpass other historic records, including those held by Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan, as he continues to lead the NBA in steals.
