Australia’s resource and energy sector experienced substantial momentum throughout 2025, with a blend of project completions, new investments and sustained development signalling robust growth across mining, oil and gas, and critical minerals.

Government data show that by October 2025 there were more than four hundred major resource and energy projects underway nationwide, up on the previous year, even as a number of significant undertakings moved from construction into operation or completion stages.

The annual Resources and Energy Major Projects (REMP) report — the industry’s authoritative overview of developments valued at fifty million Australian dollars and above — notes that while the overall value of committed projects edged back slightly as some were completed, the pipeline of activity remained both diverse and resilient.

Oil and gas projects continued to represent a large share of committed investment by value, while critical minerals and infrastructure projects also advanced, highlighting broad engagement across traditional and emerging sectors.

Investment in the nation’s resources was supported by strong export performance and continued global demand for commodities including iron ore, gold, liquefied natural gas and critical minerals that underpin energy transition technologies.

Independent industry analysis found that mining deals worth nearly nineteen billion Australian dollars were completed in the 2025 period, reflecting considerable capital flows into the sector and reinforcing confidence among strategic global partners.

The strength of the sector’s project pipeline was evident in the growth of major ventures under development, which expanded from four hundred and seven projects in the prior year to four hundred and thirty-two by late October.

This increase occurred even as a cohort of earlier undertakings reached completion, contributing to ongoing economic activity, employment and export capacity.

Australia’s resource industry also maintained its strategic importance for global supply chains, particularly for critical minerals that are essential to renewable energy systems, electric vehicles and high-technology manufacturing.
