During a press conference, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton outlined the Coalition's proposals aimed at increasing affordable housing.

These include a $5 billion plan to collaborate with local councils on infrastructure to facilitate land development, a prohibition on foreign buyers at property auctions, and a contentious initiative that would allow young Australians to withdraw up to $50,000 from their superannuation funds to assist in acquiring a mortgage.

Reportedly, each international student contributes approximately $72,000 to the Australian economy annually.

Critics have raised alarms about the potential financial consequences of capping international student numbers at public universities, which could decrease from about 320,000 to approximately 240,000 if the Coalition's proposed 25 percent cap is enacted.

This change could result in a projected economic loss of around $5.8 billion.

The Coalition previously opposed the government's proposal to decrease the number of international students and successfully blocked it in the Senate alongside the Greens.

Dutton has indicated a desire to prioritize housing solutions for young Australians over the debate regarding student numbers, emphasizing a commitment to alleviating the current crisis in housing affordability.

In response to recent issues surrounding cybersecurity, particularly concerning a cyber-attack on superannuation funds which compromised member data, Dutton has asserted that the responsibility lies with super funds to adequately protect the data of their members.

He highlighted the extensive personal and financial information at risk due to insufficient investments in cybersecurity within these funds.

The upcoming election has prompted both major parties to pay close attention to demographic shifts, particularly concerning the Chinese-Australian electorate.

With a significant portion of the electorate in seats like Menzies and Chisholm now comprising Chinese-Australian voters, both parties are recalibrating their campaigns to address the specific concerns of this community, which include cost of living, childcare quality, and Australia’s diplomatic relations with China.

Political analysts indicate that the redistribution of electoral boundaries has altered the competitive landscape in these areas, making previously secure seats more marginal and compelling candidates to engage with the concerns of new constituents.
