Promoter Behind Candace Owens’ Blocked Australia Tour Enters Liquidation, Leaving Fans in Limbo

Promoter Behind Candace Owens’ Blocked Australia Tour Enters Liquidation, Leaving Fans in Limbo

Rocksman faces insolvency with unpaid debts and unresolved ticket refunds more than a year after Sydney barred US commentator Candace Owens’ visit
The Australian promoter that had planned to bring American conservative commentator Candace Owens to Australia has been placed into liquidation, leaving many ticket holders still awaiting refunds more than a year after the proposed tour was blocked.

Rocksman, the Sydney-based company responsible for organising Owens’ 2024 speaking events, declared insolvency in December two thousand twenty-five, listing debts of more than sixty-eight thousand Australian dollars to the Australian Taxation Office and no significant assets.

The firm’s collapse follows the Australian government’s decision — upheld by the nation’s highest court — to refuse Owens a visa on character grounds amid concerns her appearance could incite discord within the community.

Ticket buyers who paid for Owens’ planned shows, which had been marketed across major cities including Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, have been left without the refunds they were promised.

Despite earlier assurances from Rocksman that reimbursements would be processed by the end of November two thousand twenty-five, many consumers have yet to receive compensation.

Consumer protection agencies in New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand report a growing number of complaints from individuals seeking reimbursement, and have advised affected patrons to register as creditors in the liquidation process.

Rocksman co-founder George Zacharia and early member Damien Costas had sought to expand the company’s activities into live touring in two thousand twenty-four, but the abrupt cancellation of high-profile events including Owens’ tour dealt a severe financial blow.

A spokesperson for the company indicated that significant upfront costs, non-refundable payments and tax liabilities contributed to a position in which ongoing operations were unsustainable without the anticipated revenue from the events.

The spokesperson also noted that responsibility for refunds had been transferred to a consolidated entity separate from Rocksman, though creditors remain sceptical about the prospects of recovery.

Owens’ team has distanced itself from the financial fallout, stating the responsibility for ticket refunds lies with the now-insolvent promoter.

Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has defended the original cancellation of Owens’ visa and subsequent tour, saying at the time that it was in the national interest to prevent what he described as potential community discord.

The ongoing situation has sparked debate about the handling of politically charged speaking engagements and the legal and financial frameworks governing such events in Australia.
