Officers investigate potential hate-related offences following seizure of provocative imagery at inner-city venue
Police in Sydney have declared an inner-city bar a crime scene after seizing posters that depicted former United States President
Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dressed in Nazi uniforms.
Officers attended the venue following reports about the display of the imagery, which was visible inside the premises.
The posters portrayed both political leaders in stylised military attire associated with Nazi Germany, prompting complaints and triggering a police response.
Authorities confirmed that the material was removed and taken for further examination.
The venue was formally declared a crime scene while investigators assessed whether the display may constitute an offence under laws relating to the public exhibition of Nazi symbols or other hate-related provisions.
New South Wales introduced legislation in recent years criminalising the public display of Nazi symbols, with limited exemptions for artistic, educational or journalistic purposes.
Police said inquiries are ongoing to determine the intent behind the display and whether charges will be laid.
The incident has drawn strong reactions within parts of the local community, particularly among Jewish organisations, which have repeatedly called for firm enforcement of laws designed to prevent the normalisation of extremist imagery.
Representatives emphasised the sensitivity surrounding Nazi symbolism and the harm such imagery can cause.
The bar’s management has not publicly detailed the rationale for the display.
Police said investigations are continuing and urged members of the public to report concerns about potentially unlawful material so it can be assessed under applicable legislation.
