The Bureau of Meteorology has recorded some of the highest temperatures in years, with Melbourne reaching around forty-one degrees, while vast swaths of inland Victoria and neighbouring South Australia have endured severe heat and tinder-dry conditions that have accelerated fire activity.

Fire authorities have declared emergency warnings in several Victorian districts, including areas near Walwa, Bungil, Thologolong, Granya, Moyreisk, Natte Yallock, Redbank and Darraweit Guim, urging residents to leave immediately before conditions deteriorate further.

These warnings reflect rapidly advancing blazes fed by extreme heat, dry vegetation and gusty northerly winds, with at least three out-of-control fires confirmed across the state.

Firefighters, supported by aircraft and heavy machinery, are battling the blazes as the crisis evolves.

Emergency Management Victoria’s public alerts list shows active emergency and watch-and-act warnings for bushfire and grassfire incidents, alongside extreme heat advice for the entire state.

Officials have stressed that conditions could worsen through the week, with forecasts indicating prolonged heat and elevated fire risk across much of the Southeast.

Total fire bans remain in place across wide regions of Victoria, and similar prohibitions are enforced in neighbouring states facing comparable hazards.

The severe heatwave, the most intense in several years, is part of a broader pattern affecting much of southern and eastern Australia, where temperatures have climbed into the low-to-mid forties Celsius.

South Australia has also seen extreme heat and grassfire outbreaks, prompting fire danger warnings and resource mobilization.

Health and emergency services have issued safety advisories for residents to stay hydrated, seek cooler environments and monitor local warnings, particularly as the combination of high temperatures and fire activity continues to strain response resources.
