Zoe Daniel has officially conceded the federal seat of Goldstein to Liberal candidate Tim Wilson following a recount that confirmed Wilson's victory by a margin of just 175 votes.

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) announced the final results of the recount on Saturday, leading to Daniel's acknowledgment of Wilson's success shortly thereafter.

Daniel expressed her congratulations to Wilson, indicating the close nature of the contest and the significant community engagement throughout the election process.

In her statement on social media, she reflected on the effort her campaign dedicated to securing every vote, emphasizing the narrow margin that made Goldstein one of the most marginal seats in the country.

The recount process involved approximately 85,000 votes, representing 75 percent of the total ballots cast.

Despite Daniel's initial claim of victory on election night, subsequent postal votes favored Wilson, who later held a press conference to declare his win after the postal vote count concluded.

The recount was sparked by a margin of just 260 votes in Wilson's favor following the conclusion of the count last week.

Daniel requested the recount due to the tight margin and reported discrepancies in the initial count, specifically citing errors identified during the preference distribution process.

The AEC confirmed that the recount was thorough and transparent, with all counting activities conducted in the presence of scrutineers appointed by the candidates.

The AEC detailed that the slight change in Wilson's margin resulted from adjustments made to ballot paper formality based on challenges put forth by scrutineers, along with a data entry error identified during the recount.
