Lance Stroll has delivered a stark assessment of Aston Martin’s performance after the opening race of the Formula One season in Australia, summarising the team’s progress with a blunt eight-word verdict that they had effectively “just circulated” during the race.

“It was like a practice session for us, just getting laps,” he said when discussing the team’s approach in Melbourne.
