European governments and Australia have begun sending military aircraft, warships, air-defense systems and personnel to the Middle East as the regional conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States intensifies and spreads across several countries.

The deployments come as the war has rapidly widened following large-scale military strikes against Iran’s military infrastructure by the United States and Israel, an operation aimed at weakening Tehran’s capacity to threaten regional stability.

In response, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks across the region, targeting Israel and a range of U.S. and allied facilities in the Gulf and surrounding areas.

Several European countries have responded by reinforcing defensive positions to protect their forces, citizens and strategic interests.

The United Kingdom has deployed fighter jets, counter-drone systems and a naval destroyer to the eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus, where one of its air bases was struck by an Iranian-made drone.

French forces have reported engaging drones in self-defense operations while emphasizing their commitment to protect partners across the Gulf and Middle East.

Across Europe, governments have framed the deployments as precautionary defensive measures rather than participation in offensive operations.

European bases and personnel in countries such as Cyprus, Iraq and Bahrain have been exposed to missile and drone threats as Iranian retaliatory strikes have spread across the region.

The conflict has also prompted broader strategic concerns.

The Middle East hosts critical trade routes and energy supply lines that are vital for European economies.

Protecting shipping lanes, oil infrastructure and regional allies has become a priority as fears grow that the conflict could disrupt global energy markets or expand into a wider war.

Australia has taken a different but related approach.

Canberra has sent crisis response teams, aircraft and military personnel to support the evacuation and protection of thousands of Australian citizens caught in the conflict zone.

Officials have described the operation as one of the largest consular efforts ever undertaken by the country, with teams deployed across multiple Middle Eastern locations to assist citizens attempting to leave.

Australian defense assets in the region are primarily intended to provide logistical support and emergency evacuation capacity rather than direct combat operations.

The move reflects growing concern among Western governments about the safety of their nationals as missile and drone attacks have targeted multiple countries across the Middle East.

The deployments by Europe and Australia mirror a broader international buildup as allies respond to the fast-moving conflict and its expanding geographic scope.
