Formula 1’s governing body has temporarily eased strict curfew regulations for teams preparing for the Australian Grand Prix, granting additional working hours as personnel scramble to reach Melbourne following major travel disruptions linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) suspended mandatory overnight curfews for Wednesday and Thursday at Albert Park, allowing mechanics and engineers to continue work in garages beyond the usual limits.

The measure was designed to help teams recover lost preparation time after hundreds of staff members faced delayed or rerouted journeys to Australia.

The disruption emerged after a sharp escalation in the Middle East triggered widespread airspace closures across several key aviation hubs.

Airports in Dubai, Doha and other major transit points—commonly used by Formula 1 personnel traveling from Europe—were affected, forcing teams to urgently reorganize their travel logistics.

Thousands of individuals connected to the championship, including mechanics, engineers and support staff, had originally planned to transit through the region while traveling from European bases to Melbourne.

With those routes disrupted, teams were compelled to find alternative paths to Australia.

Formula 1 responded by arranging new chartered flights and redirecting staff through different global transit points, including routes via Asia.

Some personnel were flown through cities such as Singapore or Hong Kong before connecting onward to Melbourne, while others took long-haul flights into Perth followed by domestic transfers.

In some cases, charter aircraft were deployed specifically to ensure that key technical staff arrived in time for the season opener.

Reports indicated that hundreds of team members from Europe were placed on special flights organized to bypass the affected Middle Eastern corridors.

The logistical challenge intensified because a significant number of team employees were still in Bahrain following pre-season testing.

The disruption left some personnel temporarily stranded in the region while teams coordinated safe exit strategies and alternative flights.

Despite the upheaval, organizers and Formula 1 officials have emphasized that the race weekend itself remains fully on schedule.

Freight, including race cars and equipment containers, had already reached Melbourne, and the majority of drivers and senior team figures were either already in Australia or expected to arrive in time for the opening practice sessions.

The Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park marks the first round of the twenty-four-race Formula 1 season.

Preparations traditionally follow a tightly controlled timetable, with curfews limiting overnight work by team personnel to protect staff welfare and ensure sporting fairness.

By temporarily lifting those restrictions, the FIA has provided teams with the flexibility needed to complete car assembly and preparation once delayed staff arrive.

Race officials remain confident that spectators will see no visible impact from the travel turmoil.

Drivers, engineers and team principals are all expected to be present for the start of on-track action, with the Grand Prix scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon in Melbourne.
